Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to collect routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and dates
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that can show broad usage patterns, such as which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers help combine that activity into site-level statistics. A browser can reject cookies, though some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Maintaining stable and responsive pages
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which information visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Wood County guidance identifies official sources such as the sheriff, the courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies power the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information submitted through those tools. Review the selected provider's terms before running a query because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the sheriff, courts, West Virginia agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's own privacy policy controls the visit. Read that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be available in limited form to:
- Analytics companies measuring traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a query submitted to them
- Advertising networks serving material on a page
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such data is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. West Virginia's public-record framework is the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while West Virginia Code §15-2-24 separately limits dissemination of State Police criminal-identification records. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a public records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal data held about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Seek deletion when the law permits it
- Object to certain forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version becomes available here with its updated effective date, so visitors should review the page from time to time.
